New Orleans Mayor speaks on manhunt more than a day after inmates escape


New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell speaks for the first time more than a day after 10 inmates escaped Orleans Parish Jail. In a social media post, Cantrell thanks the women and men who are working to capture the inmates. “I want to say thank you to the New Orleans Police Department, our Unified Command made up of State Police, our federal partners, as they continue to work tirelessly on this manhunt to ensure that everyone is captured.” The City of New Orleans and NOPD issued a joint statement Friday reminding residents and visitors to stay vigilant during this time and if you see something, say something. “Now is a critical time for our community to come together and assist in any way possible,” the statement read. Three inmates have been captured at this time and were transported to another facility outside of New Orleans by Louisiana State Police. Seven inmates are still on the run. Officials are asking people to be on the lookout for anything suspicious and anyone with information is encouraged to call 911 or Crimestoppers.
