The Tripura government is set to give a warm welcome to Asmita Dey, who secured a gold medal in Judo at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, during her two-day visit to her home state starting Wednesday, an official reported.
According to L Darlong, Director of Youth Affairs and Sports, the ceremony will take place at Rabindra Bhavan.
Dey has made history as the first Indian judoka to clinch a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.
Chief Minister Manik Saha honored Asmita in New Delhi, alongside Youth Affairs & Sports Minister Tinku Roy.
Throughout her two-day stay in the state, she plans to visit her village—Dakshin Sonaichari in the Belonia subdivision of South Tripura.
“Asmita will pay tribute to her father, who motivated her to earn a medal on the global stage, at Dakshin Sonaichari. Our sole ambition is to see Asmita on the podium at the Olympics,” remarked Munna Pathari Dey, the judoka’s mother.
