The 26-year-old’s previous contract was set to expire in June 2027, prompting reports of interest from Premier League champions Arsenal. This new agreement alleviates any immediate uncertainty surrounding one of Madrid’s key players.
“Real Madrid and Vinicius Jr have reached an agreement to extend our player’s contract, ensuring he remains with the club until June 30, 2032. Vinicius has emerged as one of the most vital players during a highly successful era for us,” the club stated.
Since his arrival from Brazilian club Flamengo in 2018, Vinicius has evolved into one of the top attackers globally, notching up 128 goals and supplying 100 assists in all competitions for Los Blancos.
Throughout his tenure in Madrid, he has contributed to the club’s triumphs in two UEFA Champions League titles, three La Liga championships, and various other domestic and international honors.
This contract extension comes after extensive discussions between the player’s agents and the club, with Spanish and British media highlighting lengthy negotiations over new terms. Arsenal had been mentioned as a potential suitor if talks failed, but the new agreement eliminated any chance of Madrid losing the Brazilian on a free transfer.
Vinicius also faced a challenging summer with Brazil at the FIFA World Cup, where the five-time champions experienced a surprising last-16 exit against Norway.
The winger is now prepared to embark on a new chapter under Jose Mourinho, who returned to Real Madrid for a second stint as head coach in June after a disappointing 2025-26 season.
Real finished second to Barcelona in La Liga, were ousted in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, and concluded the season without securing any major trophies.
The renewal of Vinicius’ contract is a key component of an ambitious summer overhaul at the Santiago Bernabeu. Real Madrid has also bolstered their roster with the additions of Yan Diomande, Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konate, Marc Cucurella, and Denzel Dumfries as they prepare for the upcoming campaign.
