The West Central Railway, part of the 18 zones, has informed that travelers reserving Tatkal tickets at counters will be provided with tokens prior to their ticket purchases.
Under the new guidelines, AC class travelers will obtain tokens from 8:30 am to 9 am, while non-AC passengers will be issued tokens from 9 am to 9:30 am.
Presently, passengers need to collect a token and return later to finalize their ticket bookings. Passengers reserving AC class Tatkal tickets currently get tokens between 9 am and 9:25 am, while Sleeper or non-AC Tatkal ticket buyers are given tokens from 9:30 am to 9:55 am. The upcoming process aims to complete everything in a single visit.
Saurabh Jain, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (Sr DCM) of the Kota Division, stated that each reservation counter will initially distribute 10 tokens for AC classes and 15 tokens for non-AC classes.
“The number of tokens may vary depending on local demands and passenger volume,” Jain remarked. He also noted that after all token holders have made their bookings, any leftover Tatkal tickets will be made available to other passengers on a first-come, first-served basis.
The new system prioritizes passengers booking for their immediate family. Tokens will be categorized into two groups – Category A and Category B.
Railway officials clarified that tokens are non-transferable. Tatkal tickets will only be issued to the individual whose name appears on the token. Passengers are advised to arrive at the reservation counter punctually and to carry a valid photo ID.
