“I am contemplating a significant attack. Larger than anything before. I am nearing a decision. We are fully prepared for it,” Trump stated during the interview, noting that he hasn’t reached a final conclusion yet.
He mentioned that Israel “would join in two minutes if I ask them to,” but emphasized that the US “doesn’t require anyone” to commence a new campaign against Iran. Trump also cautioned that Israel’s involvement could lead to “consequences,” suggesting potential Iranian retaliation.
The US president further remarked that Iran is eager to negotiate but is “not ready to strike a deal” yet as it “hasn’t endured enough pain”.
Two US officials informed Axios that no decision has been finalized and no new military commands have been placed.
In a separate statement, two regional sources familiar with ongoing mediation indicated that Iran’s leadership has not accepted the most recent proposal intended to ease tensions.
As per the report, the US has increased military operations over the past 12 days in reaction to Iranian assaults on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, while Iran has continued to escalate its actions in the area. Iran-aligned Houthi rebels have also heightened assaults on Saudi ships in the Red Sea, further exacerbating tensions along a vital global shipping route.
Trump additionally warned on Truth Social that if the Houthis launch further strikes on vessels in the Red Sea, the US would hold Iran accountable. Designating the Houthis as an Iranian proxy, he stated “major military punishment” would be applied to both Iran and the faction.
In another note, Trump mentioned that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wishes to attend the memorial for the late Senator Lindsey Graham in Washington next week, adding that he would meet with the Israeli leader should he visit.
