The series kicks off on Thursday, with Zimbabwe aiming to capitalize on an Indian team looking to bounce back from a disappointing tour of Ireland and England in white-ball formats.
India faced a 2-0 T20I series loss to Ireland in Belfast, followed by a 4-0 defeat in a five-match T20I series against England under the leadership of new captain Shreyas Iyer. They also suffered a 2-1 setback in the ODI series against Shubman Gill.
Ahead of the series, Raza stated that Zimbabwe’s recent performances have bolstered their confidence to take on any opponent.
“Both teams have similar chances in this series. However, I am certain that Zimbabwe’s consistent and entertaining cricket will ensure this series is truly captivating,” Raza shared with Star Sports.
Zimbabwe has had a successful run in T20 cricket this year, marked by a notable 23-run victory over Australia during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Colombo in February. This surprising result contributed to Australia’s unexpected exit in the group stage, and Zimbabwe has also claimed wins against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in 2026.
With 136 T20 Internationals under his belt, Raza is confident that the match-up will be closely contested.
“When it comes to winning or losing, both nations have an equal shot at the series. While India is navigating a transition, Zimbabwe is also experiencing some changes. I envision this series as anything but one-sided,” he remarked.
The seasoned all-rounder highlighted the transitions both teams are undergoing, noting that India’s rebuilding phase adds an extra layer of unpredictability to the series.
The opening T20I is set to take place on Thursday, with the second and third matches following at the same venue on July 25 and July 26.
