As the Monsoon Session approaches, the DMK has urged the Centre to clarify the implementation plan for the Women’s Reservation Bill, emphasizing that the 33% quota should reflect the current strength of the Lok Sabha and cautioning against any delimitation processes that might disadvantage southern states.

On Sunday, July 19, the DMK called on the government to provide a definitive formula for the constitutional amendment bill aimed at reserving 33% of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, asserting that this quota should be calculated based on the current composition of the Lower House.
The matter was brought up by DMK leader Tiruchi Siva during the traditional all-party meeting held in anticipation of the Monsoon session of Parliament, scheduled to begin on Monday.
“The DMK supports the Women’s Reservation Bill according to the current strength in the Lok Sabha, but we seek clearer guidance regarding the delimitation issue,” he informed reporters following the discussion.
Siva expressed that the delimitation process should not negatively impact southern states and requested more details from the government.
“If it poses a risk to the southern states, it should be deferred for 25 years,” Siva stated.
