He emphasized that only registered yatris would be allowed to proceed to the sacred cave shrine on their planned date, he clarified.
This appeal follows a notable influx of pilgrims arriving in J-K without the necessary registration.
The 57-day pilgrimage to the Amarnath cave shrine, located at an altitude of 3,880 meters, commenced on July 3 through two routes: the traditional 48-km Nunwan-Pahalgam route in Anantnag district and the shorter 14-km, steeper Baltal route in Ganderbal district. The yatra is set to conclude on August 28.
In just the first two days, over 26,000 pilgrims have participated in the yatra.
The LG chaired a high-level review meeting to evaluate the management and ground situation concerning the ongoing annual Amarnath Yatra that started on Friday.
“Today, I reviewed the overall management and ground situation of the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026 in a high-level meeting. I urge all intending pilgrims to embark on the Yatra only after obtaining a valid Yatra Registration Permit for their specified date,” the LG posted on X.
He reiterated that only registered pilgrims for their assigned date would be permitted to move towards the holy cave shrine.
An official spokesperson stated that the LG assessed various aspects including the movement of pilgrims, traffic management, security arrangements, accommodation, registration status, and other logistical components to ensure the safe and smooth execution of the yatra.
During discussions, it was noted that a significant number of pilgrims have been arriving without valid registration, resulting in extended waiting times for those wishing to undertake the yatra.
The spokesperson further indicated that the LG emphasized that the yatra is being conducted in alignment with the prescribed ceiling for pilgrim movement on the pilgrimage routes, following the Supreme Court’s directives.
Consequently, adherence to the registration schedule is crucial for ensuring safety, security, and convenience for all pilgrims.

It was reiterated that only those pilgrims with valid registration for their appointed date will be permitted on the trails leading to the holy cave shrine, the spokesperson clarified.
Sinha has asked unregistered pilgrims to postpone their travel for the next few days to avoid any inconvenience upon arriving in Jammu and Kashmir.
The spokesperson mentioned that the administration has advised all hopeful pilgrims to complete the mandatory registration process and acquire a valid yatra registration permit for their designated date prior to commencing their journey to J-K.
Pilgrims are cautioned against traveling without confirmed registration, as they will not be allowed to proceed on the yatra, he added.
LG Sinha also evaluated the security and logistical preparations for the yatra.
He instructed all departments and security agencies to continue collaborating closely and to maintain ongoing communication with all stakeholders, including langar organizations, service providers, and other NGOs to ensure a safe, seamless, spiritually enriching, and fulfilling yatra.
Meanwhile, during a press conference, Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, Anshul Garg, mentioned that in recent days, many visitors and yatris have arrived in J-K without registration, leading to some inconveniences.
Garg assured that the yatra is proceeding smoothly, with 26,000 yatris having had darshan of the naturally formed ice-lingam in the south Kashmir Himalayas within the first two days.
However, he reiterated that only registered pilgrims would receive the essential RFID cards and be allowed to continue on the yatra.
“The tatkal quota is limited, allowing only a few pilgrims under that category. Those who arrived without registration must wait a few days since the RFID card service cannot be extended to them, meaning they won’t be permitted to continue on the yatra for now. Only registered yatris will be granted access,” Garg explained, flanked by Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, V K Birdi.
He added that many pilgrims have reached J-K ahead of their registered date for the yatra.
“We urge them to undertake the yatra only on their registered date to prevent any inconvenience,” he noted, adding that the administration’s goal is to accommodate all pilgrims for the yatra, but they must wait for their turn and complete online registration beforehand to avoid any issues.
