Another World Cup, another clash between India and Pakistan
A Sunday featuring an India-Pakistan showdown is always a thrilling affair for cricket enthusiasts. More than just the fans, this matchup is a goldmine for broadcasters, as it presents a major opportunity for viewership and revenue when these two rivals clash in a high-stakes tournament. The intensity is always palpable when India and Pakistan go head-to-head.

On Sunday, Team India will face off against Fatima Sana’s Pakistan at Edgbaston, with both teams kicking off their campaign in the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Given the significance of this match, the pressure in both dressing rooms is expected to be immense.

However, much of the narrative surrounding this women’s cricket rivalry has unfolded in the pre-match buildup rather than on the pitch, where it has predominantly tilted in favor of India. Out of the 16 Women’s T20 Internationals contested between these teams, India has claimed victory in 13. Notably, two of India’s three losses occurred during the first two editions of the T20 World Cup, when Pakistan had the upper hand. As the sport progressed, though, the scales tipped decisively in India’s direction.
Pakistan’s latest triumph over India was in the 2022 Women’s Asia Cup, where they won by 13 runs. Since that victory, however, they have struggled to replicate that success in what is one of cricket’s most eagerly awaited rivalries.

Fresh off their ODI World Cup win, India enters the tournament with significant momentum. Despite facing losses in T20I series against South Africa and England, as well as a defeat in a warm-up match, captain Harmanpreet Kaur will aim for her team to play with conviction and self-belief.

Conversely, Pakistan’s skipper Fatima Sana has garnered tremendous acclaim for her leadership and performances during the last Women’s T20 World Cup, which was her inaugural major tournament in that role. Her resilience, maturity, and dedication to her team and country continue to earn her admiration.

After experiencing the loss of her father during the tournament, Fatima returned home to fulfill familial obligations before rejoining her squad in time for Pakistan’s following match, showcasing exceptional courage amid challenging circumstances. Although Pakistan lost that match and exited the tournament, Fatima’s actions resonated deeply within the cricketing community.

Pakistan possesses several players capable of making a notable impact in this World Cup edition. Nevertheless, all eyes will once again be on skipper Fatima Sana, who remains pivotal to Pakistan’s campaign.
