Central Secretariat to transform into a metro hub with three corridors linking the yellow, violet, and magenta lines.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has initiated construction at the Central Secretariat Metro Station, part of the Central Vista Corridor project.

Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs and Power, Manohar Lal, was present at the groundbreaking ceremony. Katikithala Srinivas, Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and Chairman of DMRC, along with senior officials, also attended the launch event.

This project is being developed under Phase V(A) of the Delhi Metro network, extending the existing Magenta Line from Janakpuri West to RK Ashram Marg.
The 9.9-km underground corridor will feature nine stations: Shivaji Stadium, Yuge Yugeen Bharat, Central Secretariat, Kartavya Bhawan, India Gate, War Memorial-High Court, Baroda House, Bharat Mandapam, and Indraprastha.
Upon completion, Central Secretariat will function as a triple interchange station, facilitating passenger transfers between the Magenta, Yellow, and Violet lines. The new interchange is expected to enhance connectivity for individuals traveling to the Lutyens’ Zone and adjacent administrative areas.

DMRC states that the corridor will simplify access to key government offices, courts, national memorials, and convention centers. Additionally, it is anticipated to boost overall connectivity in central Delhi, making travel more straightforward for users.

“This project signifies a crucial advancement in bolstering connectivity to the heart of New Delhi, providing efficient access to vital government offices, judicial institutions, national memorials, and convention facilities, while enhancing overall network efficiency and passenger convenience,” the DMRC posted on X.

This segment is one of three new routes being constructed under Delhi Metro’s Phase-V(A) expansion scheme. Collectively, these three corridors will span 16.07 kilometers and are expected to cost approximately ₹12,000 crore. The Central Government approved the initiative in December 2025.

Once the Magenta Line is integrated, Central Secretariat is projected to become one of Delhi’s pivotal metro interchange hubs. The government anticipates that the corridor will benefit around 60,000 employees working in these offices, along with nearly 2 lakh visitors accessing the area daily.

Once completed, the Magenta Line will evolve into the longest line in the Delhi Metro network, increasing its total length to 88.4 km, surpassing the Pink Line, which is currently the longest at over 71.5 km with 46 stations.
