The company surged 320 places in the 2025 rankings to claim the 20th spot, joining other global tech leaders such as Huawei, Samsung, Qualcomm, LG, Panasonic, Nokia, Google, Apple, and Microsoft, as stated in a company announcement on Saturday.
This significant climb occurs amid a global PCT filing growth of less than 1%, underscoring Jio’s rapid innovation and intellectual property development.
Jio highlighted that its patent portfolio focuses on next-generation technologies, including 5G, 5G Advanced, 6G, artificial intelligence, AI-native networks, cloud-native platforms, intelligent automation, radio access networks, core network software, edge intelligence, fixed wireless access, network slicing, and digital services infrastructure. “Jio Platforms’ ascent to the global top 20 in the WIPO PCT rankings is a testament to our persistent efforts to evolve into a deep-tech entity,” said Akash M. Ambani, Managing Director of Jio Platforms, in the statement.
He noted that this milestone reflects the company’s innovative capabilities in advanced technologies and aligns with India’s vision of becoming a hub for technology creation and export.
The WIPO ranking serves as a crucial gauge of research and development efficiency and intellectual property strength. Jio stated that this acknowledgment emphasizes the growing footprint of Indian-origin innovation in the global tech arena.
As of March 31, 2026, Jio Platforms had submitted 6,817 patents worldwide, including 2,393 in India and 4,424 in international jurisdictions. The firm has secured 1,009 patents globally, with 538 in India and 471 in foreign markets.
The company is also advancing emerging technologies such as 5G and 6G radio systems, 5G and 6G core networks, satellite communications, and its Agentic AI platform, JioBrain, which it anticipates will enhance its future intellectual property portfolio.
This latest ranking represents a significant achievement for Jio and signifies a broader transformation in India’s tech sector from technology adoption to innovation-led creation.
