US Launches New Strikes Against Iran Amid Rising Tensions Over Hormuz Closure

The United States initiated new attacks on military positions throughout Iran for the second consecutive day, while Tehran declared the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and issued threats of retaliation amid rising regional tensions.

US-Iran War Live Updates: The US military announced it conducted further strikes across Iran on Thursday, continuing its assault amidst intensifying tensions.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that it had executed strikes targeting “Iranian military surveillance capabilities, communication systems, and air defense installations across Iran.” The operation engaged forces from the US Air Force, Marines, and Navy. CENTCOM did not disclose specifics regarding the extent of the damage inflicted.

“These strikes are a direct response to Iran’s baseless and ongoing aggression,” CENTCOM stated. “US forces remain alert, effective, and prepared.”

Iran has vowed to retaliate. Missile sirens were activated in Bahrain, home to US troops. Reports from Iranian media detailed explosions in Bandar Abbas, Sirik, and Minab in southern Iran.

Previously, CENTCOM indicated it was targeting “multiple sites in Iran” following Iranian assaults in Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan, all of which host US forces. These exchanges represented the third round of military engagement this week, despite a ceasefire lasting two months.

Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian asserted that the country would “remain steadfast” and reproached US threats. US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that the United States “will strike Iran hard.”

Among the day’s significant events, Iran’s highest military command announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz in response to the latest US strikes. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed to have targeted two vessels trying to navigate the waterway.

Iranian media further reported explosions and air defense activities in southern Iran and western Tehran. In a separate incident, the US military announced it had “disabled” a vessel in the Gulf of Oman that was “attempting to transport oil from Iran.”

In Lebanon, Israeli airstrikes in the southern region resulted in at least 12 fatalities and injured 13 others, including two paramedics, on Wednesday.
