Among the three RS seats up for grabs, the ruling BJP is expected to win two, having nominated national general secretary Tarun Chugh and state unit secretary Rajneesh Agrawal. The Congress has put forward former Union minister Meenakshi Natarajan for the RS elections slated for June 18.
“I am optimistic that both our candidates will triumph in the Rajya Sabha elections. Should our party decide to announce a third candidate, we will exert ourselves to ensure his success as well,” Vijayvargiya, who serves as the state parliamentary affairs minister, shared with reporters.
When asked about a potential third candidate, MP BJP chief Hemant Khandelwal refrained from giving a straightforward response.
“Candidates have only been declared for two seats,” he remarked.
Voting for the three Rajya Sabha seats in Madhya Pradesh is set for June 18, with the deadline for submitting nominations falling on June 8.
In the 230-member MP assembly, the BJP commands a significant majority with 164 seats, compared to the Congress’s 64. One seat belongs to the Bharat Adivasi Party, while one seat remains unoccupied.
