Bihar’s IPL Aspirations Grow Stronger as CM Suggests Major Developments

Bihar CM Samrat Choudhary Retains 29 Portfolios, Assigns 18 Departments to His Deputies
Bihar’s Chief Minister, Samrat Choudhary, announced on Friday that the state would make a “positive decision” regarding the proposal to create its own IPL team.

Choudhary shared this on his X handle in response to a social media message from Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal, a native of Bihar.

In his statement, Agarwal expressed, “Don’t you believe Bihar merits a team of its own, akin to Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, and Kolkata Knight Riders? Bihar’s soil has produced many outstanding cricketers for the nation.” He shared his vision and commitment to ensuring that the youth of Bihar receive opportunities to excel in every area.
“I am entirely confident that with the right inspiration and facilities, a team from Bihar will rise to become the best in the world,” Agarwal noted. He committed to providing “unconditional support” to promote Bihar’s cricket team and its players, emphasizing that “the time is ripe for our local talent to shine on the field.” In response, Choudhary stated, “I fully concur with your sentiments. For the cricketing passion of Bihar, the government is operating in ‘mission’ mode with a definitive ‘vision.’ With your support, a positive decision regarding Bihar’s IPL cricket team will surely follow.” Sports Minister Shreyasi Singh also voiced her support for the initiative to establish Bihar’s IPL team.

“We all desire for Bihar’s athletes to have a proper platform and a rightful position to elevate Bihar’s reputation through their performances. At this moment, Anil Agarwal ji’s tweet is certainly appreciated. Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary ji has also endorsed it,” she shared with PTI Videos.

Singh indicated that the sports department will do everything possible to “bring this idea to fruition” as quickly as possible.

Additionally, the sports minister expressed confidence in the state’s capabilities to host IPL matches.

“The necessary infrastructure is in place. To effectively utilize this infrastructure, we are diligently preparing our players—not only in cricket but across various sports. If we can host international competitions in rugby, hockey, and other sports, we can certainly accommodate IPL matches as well,” she stated.
