The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras Global Research Foundation has announced the launch of its inaugural center in the United States, marking a significant expansion of India’s deep-tech innovation into global markets.

The center, located in Menlo Park, California, was unveiled on April 24 during the SelectUSA Investment Summit at National Harbour in Maryland on Tuesday (May 5).

“The Menlo Park center, made possible through our collaboration with CA Startups, serves as a strategic anchor for IITM Global’s operations in the US,” stated Thirumalai Madhavnarayan, CEO of the IIT Madras Global Research Foundation, in an interview with PTI.
“With a targeted investment strategy, we aim to create a platform that fast-tracks deep-tech ventures from the lab to global markets, as well as attract global innovations into India,” he added.

The center will be built with a total planned investment of USD 7.5 million, which includes a greenfield investment of USD 4.5 million from IITM Global, according to Narayan.

Strategically positioned near Silicon Valley, the IITM Centre is designed to be a launchpad for Indian deep-tech startups seeking access to global capital, markets, mentorship, and collaborations.

The Menlo Park center will prioritize advancing deep-tech research and commercialisation, serving as a hub for startup incubation and global market entry.

It aims to enhance industry-academia partnerships and facilitate venture engagement to support the scaling of high-potential innovations.

The IITM Global also revealed plans to establish a second center on the US East Coast, further reinforcing its presence across critical innovation corridors.

The East Coast center will complement these initiatives by engaging with leading policy, financial, and academic ecosystems, fostering a more integrated US presence.

The IIT-Madras Global delegation, which included founders of deep-tech startups incubated at IIT-M, met with Indian Ambassador to the US Vinay Mohan Kwatra.

“Had an insightful conversation with Thirumalai Madhavnarayan, Head of IITM Global, and the brilliant founders of five IIT Madras-incubated deep-tech startups — Atri AI, Zerowatt, Satori XR, Greenvironment, and @ePlaneCompany — on the sidelines of the #SelectUSASummit,” Kwatra posted on X.

“Truly inspired by the impressive work these young tech leaders showcased. We discussed numerous exciting opportunities within the India and US tech ecosystems. The future of India-US innovation collaboration looks promising,” Kwatra remarked.
