Choudhary assumed office on April 15, marking the first time a BJP leader has governed the state. His deputies, Bijendra Prasad Yadav and Vijay Kumar Chaudhary from Janata Dal United, also took their oaths.
The additional departments that Choudhary oversees are Agriculture, Labour Resources and Migrant Workers Welfare, Disaster Management, Panchayati Raj, and Industries.
According to the notification from the Cabinet Secretariat Department, Samrat Choudhary is in charge of a total of 29 portfolios, alongside “all other departments not assigned to anyone else.”
Vijay Kumar Chaudhary has been assigned 10 departments, which include Water Resources, Parliamentary Affairs, and Information and Public Relations—portfolios he previously managed in the Nitish Kumar administration.
Yadav will oversee eight departments, such as Energy, Finance, and Planning and Development, all of which he held in the last government. He is also responsible for the Prohibition, Excise, and Registration Department.
Nitish Kumar, the JD(U) leader, had a tight grip on the home department for much of his 20-year tenure, but consented to relinquish it after securing his fifth consecutive term in November of last year.
