EC Releases New Post-Election Guidelines for West Bengal Assembly Elections

West Bengal Voter List Update Approaches Finalization as Election Commission Resolves 5.2 Million Cases
The Election Commission announced new post-poll procedures on Thursday (April 23) for the West Bengal assembly election, outlining stringent protocols for the management of surveillance cameras and video data after voting, according to a senior official.

As per the revised guidelines, SD cards from polling booth cameras cannot be taken out immediately after voting concludes, and only designated officials are authorized to dismount the cameras, which must then be overseen by the sector officer, he noted.

“The SD cards can only be removed at the appointed Data Collection and Receiving Centre, in the presence of the Assistant Returning Officer,” he stated.
All video recordings from the polling must be securely and systematically preserved, the election official emphasized.

“No polling party member or Booth Level Officer (BLO) is allowed to leave the polling station until all camera equipment has been appropriately dismounted,” he added.

Meanwhile, a trial run for webcasting during the second phase of polling is set to commence at 10 am on Friday, the official reported.

“The operation will be carried out in three shifts,” he mentioned.

The first phase of elections for the 294-member West Bengal assembly was held on Thursday, with the second phase scheduled for April 29. Counting of votes will occur on May 4.
