The ban, which was implemented on December 9, 2024, arose from increasing regional tensions. This ban later evolved into a complete restriction in December 2025 due to the closure of visa centres.
“The association initially imposed restrictions in December 2024, which ultimately escalated to a total ban on accommodation for travelers of all kinds in December 2025 following the closure of visa centres,” the statement indicated.

With the ban now lifted, Bangladeshi tourists and visitors can again reserve rooms in Siliguri hotels.
The association released a statement confirming the immediate lifting of all bans and restrictions concerning the accommodation of Bangladeshi nationals in member hotels throughout Siliguri, West Bengal.
This decision follows the establishment of a democratically elected government in Bangladesh on February 17, with Tarique Rahman taking office as the new prime minister, thus ending Muhammad Yunus’ 18-month tenure.
“After evaluating the current situation, the Greater Siliguri Hoteliers Welfare Association conducted a formal vote among its member hoteliers, with the majority favoring the resumption of services,” the statement mentioned.
“The decision comes in light of recent positive diplomatic developments, following the election of a democratically elected government in Bangladesh on February 17, 2026.
“Considering the recent relaxation of cross-border travel restrictions by both nations, the association acknowledges the mutual desire of both countries to enhance cross-border relations,” it added.
The association has decided to lift the ban on Bangladeshi guests, while stressing that India’s safety and dignity remain paramount. They cautioned that any future incidents of disrespect or provocative actions would prompt them to reintroduce strict measures.
“While we are rescinding the ban, the association firmly emphasizes that national interests must come first. If any future occurrences of disrespect or provocative remarks arise against our country, we will not hesitate to enforce such strict actions again,” the statement asserted.
The association had previously imposed temporary restrictions in December 2024 due to strained relations between India and Bangladesh.
The initial restrictions were triggered by alleged acts of disrespect towards the Indian flag and provocative remarks by some Bangladeshi citizens, escalating to a total ban in December 2025.
All hotels under the association have now been instructed to adhere strictly to legal and security regulations, which include meticulous checks of passports and visas as well as timely filing of Form C with the FRRO.
The notice reiterates, “We always prioritize safety. All member hoteliers have been strictly directed to continue following all legal and security protocols.”
