In a notable adjustment to IPL regulations, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has imposed stricter restrictions on the movement of players on the field, limiting the number of squad members allowed around the playing area during an IPL match.

According to the revised playing conditions, only 16 team members—the playing XI and five designated impact substitutes—will be allowed to enter the field or move in the area between the boundary rope and the LED advertising boards. The remaining squad members, while part of the travelling group, will have to remain in the dugout.

An IPL squad usually consists of 25 players; this new rule effectively sidelines non-playing members from any on-field involvement. They will no longer be permitted to carry drinks, pass on tactical messages, or offer assistance during the match.
“Instructions reached us only recently stating that all substitutes cannot move around during the match. They are also prohibited from bringing drinks onto the field. Only the 16 named players can do that. In addition, only five players outside the playing XI are allowed to move around. The rest must remain in the dugout and cannot traverse between the boundary line and LED advertising boards,” as reported by Cricbuzz.
