Air India and IndiGo Flights Disrupted as Israel and Iran Restrict Airspace Following Attack
Flight operations for several Indian airlines, including Air India and IndiGo, faced disruptions on Saturday, February 28, following the announcement of airspace closures for civilian flights by Israel and Iran.

This development occurred after a joint military action by Israel and the US against Iran, intensifying regional conflicts. As reported by Reuters, this further diminishes prospects for a diplomatic resolution regarding nuclear negotiations with the West.

Earlier that day, Air India announced the diversion of its Delhi-Tel Aviv flight to Mumbai due to the closure of Israeli airspace.
“AI139 operating from Delhi to Tel Aviv on 28 February is returning to India due to the closure of airspace in Israel and for the safety of passengers and crew,” the airline stated.

The statement continued, “Air India regrets the inconvenience caused to passengers due to this unexpected situation and is committed to upholding the highest safety standards… We will continuously evaluate the safety and security environment for our flight operations and make proactive adjustments as necessary.”

IndiGo mentioned on X that it is “closely monitoring updates from the region” surrounding Iran.

“The safety and security of our customers and crew is our top priority. Our teams are prepared to make necessary adjustments as the situation changes,” it explained.

The airline has encouraged its passengers to verify their flight status before departing.

“In case of any impact, updates will be shared promptly through registered contact details. We will keep you informed and are fully committed to providing unwavering support during this time,” it added.

Numerous international airlines have already halted flights in the area.

Lufthansa has suspended flights to and from Tel Aviv in Israel, Beirut in Lebanon, and Oman until March 7, along with cancelling flights to and from Dubai for Saturday and Sunday.

Air France has cancelled all flights to and from Tel Aviv and Beirut scheduled for Saturday.

Wizz Air has opted to suspend flights to and from Israel, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Amman immediately until March 7, while Air Arabia has cancelled flights to Iran, Iraq, and other nearby regions.

Highlighting that ‘major combat operations’ are ongoing, US President Donald Trump has encouraged the people of Iran to ‘take over’ their government, stating, “it will be yours to take. This may be your only chance for generations.”

This follows a 12-day air conflict last June between Israel and Iran.
