Ghaziabad to Build International Cricket Stadium, Aerocity with Hotels and Malls in ₹2,200 Crore Development Plan: Report
Ghaziabad is poised for a significant overhaul as the Uttar Pradesh government has sanctioned an International Cricket Stadium and Aerocity project, along with other initiatives valued at ₹ 2,200 crore, as reported. This development aims to establish the city as a pivotal hub for sports, tourism, and urban expansion in the state.

With this authorization, western Uttar Pradesh is anticipated to receive its inaugural international cricket stadium, according to The New Indian Express. This project is part of a broader integrated urban development strategy focused on enhancing infrastructure and drawing investments. Officials expect it to create substantial job opportunities and make a notable contribution to the state’s economy.

The report cited state government officials stating, “Importantly, the groundwork for this ambitious project is set to commence soon, bringing a long-awaited plan nearer to realization.”
As per official sources, the project is envisioned to transform Ghaziabad into a center for sports, tourism, and advanced urban infrastructure. An International Convention Centre will also be developed within this framework, enhancing its commercial and tourism offerings.

Ghaziabad Development Authority Vice-Chairman Nand Kishore Kalal indicated that the project will be executed in Rajnagar Extension (Morti area). The International Cricket Stadium will reportedly span 37 acres with an estimated investment of ₹ 400 crore. The Aerocity township is set to be developed over 380 acres at an approximate cost of ₹ 1,800 crore.

Together, these elements will create an interconnected hub that merges sports infrastructure, business districts, and residential areas. The project seeks to promote coordinated development across various sectors.

The initial plan for this development was crafted in 2014-15 but faced challenges in execution. Officials remarked that the development pace during that time was sluggish, which hampered the city’s growth possibilities.

“The amenities at the proposed stadium will meet international benchmarks,” they emphasized.

Kalal commented, “The facility will accommodate over 30,000 spectators, alongside a modern media hub and advanced lighting system, aligning it with global standards. Upon completion, western Uttar Pradesh will be able to host major international cricket events for the first time. Conversely, the proposed Aerocity will be the project’s greatest asset.”

“It will feature large hotels, luxury resorts, shopping centers, retail areas, high-tech business parks, office facilities, and entertainment venues. Due to its proximity to the airport, this area is expected to become a key attraction for both domestic and foreign tourists and investors,” he added.

According to the GDA V-C, the initiative is being crafted as a new urban model that reportedly encompasses a sports academy, smart residential units, green zones, and outdoor sports facilities. All these developments, when combined, will offer a comprehensive space for living, working, and recreation.

Following endorsement from the GDA board, the project will be realized through a joint venture with the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association. On this, government officials announced that the facilities are being tailored to meet global standards, ensuring the project evolves into a significant center for investment and progress in the future.
