Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar took his oath as a Rajya Sabha member on Friday (April 10), marking the end of his lengthy tenure as chief minister.

CP Radhakrishnan, the Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman, administered the oath to Nitish as a member of the Upper House.

Kumar arrived in the national capital on April 9, where he was greeted at the airport by party leaders, including Sanjay Kumar Jha, the national working president of Janata Dal United.

“I have come here to take the oath,” Kumar stated to reporters at the airport.

With Kumar taking on his new role in the Rajya Sabha, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance is expected to appoint a new Bihar chief minister on April 14.

“Bihar will have an NDA government, and it will certainly uphold the ‘Nitish model’ created by Nitish Kumar, which has been in place for the last 20 years,” stated state minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary.

Nitish resigned from the State Legislative Council on March 30 after his election to the Rajya Sabha.

The JD(U) leader was elected to the Upper House of Parliament on March 16.
