₹1.1 Crore Purchase with 300 Strike Rate as Sooryavanshi Leads Orange Cap Competition in IPL 2026
Teenage prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi lit up the field with a stunning 78 runs off just 26 balls, boasting an impressive strike rate of 300 against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Guwahati on Friday. With eight boundaries and seven sixes, the left-handed batsman propelled the Rajasthan Royals (RR) towards a commanding victory in their chase of 202 during their fourth match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.

Sooryavanshi now leads the Orange Cap rankings in the tournament, having amassed 200 runs over the course of his four innings played so far.

The left-hander was signed by RR for a modest fee of ₹1.1 crore in the mega auction prior to IPL 2025. Initially, he wasn’t a regular member of the starting XI, but he was brought into the squad midway through the season as RR faced a challenging campaign.
Sooryavanshi made an immediate impact, launching a six off the very first ball he faced in the tournament against Shardul Thakur. Just days later, he celebrated a remarkable century off 35 balls against the Gujarat Titans (GT). The Bihar native later joined the India U-19 squad, enjoying successful tours of England and Australia.

He capped off that journey by scoring 175 runs off 80 balls in the U-19 World Cup final against England, before returning to the RR lineup for what is shaping up to be a pivotal second season in the competition.

Sooryavanshi kicked off the season with vigor, reaching his half-century in just 15 balls against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Guwahati.

He followed this performance by hitting two sixes off the three balls he faced from Jasprit Bumrah in a rain-affected match at the same venue earlier this week. Bumrah strayed off his lengths, and Sooryavanshi took full advantage, sending the ball soaring into the stands twice in what has become one of the tournament’s most thrilling confrontations so far.
