Addressing criticism regarding CSK’s inconsistent performances this season, Fleming acknowledged that scrutiny is a natural consequence when results aren’t favorable. “Criticism is justified when you don’t perform well,” he stated, emphasizing that perceptions are often influenced by the outcomes.
The former New Zealand captain pointed out his continuous involvement in coaching and player auctions throughout the year in various leagues, emphasizing that his engagement with the global T20 landscape keeps him informed about emerging trends.
“I’m coaching year-round in other competitions and participating in auctions involving a plethora of players. It’s not as if I disconnect and come back to the IPL without an understanding of the game’s trajectory,” Fleming clarified.
He mentioned that his extensive work beyond the IPL has enhanced his understanding of the format. “In fact, it’s quite the contrary. I’ve likely never devoted more time to analyzing T20 cricket and players worldwide, which ultimately enriches the IPL experience too.”
Fleming acknowledged that CSK was “off the pace” last season but highlighted that the franchise has taken substantial steps to reset strategically, including a renewed emphasis on incorporating younger players into the team.
