Punjab Plans to Construct 6,000 New Stadiums to Encourage Youth Sports, Announces State Finance Minister
The Punjab government is set to construct 6,000 new sports stadiums throughout the state to encourage youth involvement in sports and keep them away from drugs, announced Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Friday.

With approximately 3,000 stadiums already established, this new initiative aims to enhance the sports infrastructure even further, he noted.

Speaking to an audience in Lopoke village, Amritsar district, Cheema emphasized the importance of engaging youth in sports as a means to shield them from substance abuse.
“The government is allocating budgetary resources to foster sports and generate job opportunities,” he stated.

Reaffirming the government’s dedication to combatting the drug issue, Cheema praised the “Yudh Nashean Virudh” campaign, which has resulted in the arrest and imprisonment of numerous major drug traffickers.

The minister also unveiled development projects amounting to 50 crore for the Raja Sansi Assembly constituency and 20 lakh for the enhancement of Lopoke village.

Previously, Cheema inaugurated the inaugural Kabaddi Cup held at the Shaheed Bhai Mewa Singh Lopoke Stadium.
