As per a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), GoPro plans to lay off approximately 145 employees out of a total of 631. The layoffs are anticipated to commence in the second quarter of 2026 and are expected to be finalized by year-end.
GoPro to compensate millions for employee terminations
The restructuring plan, which received approval from GoPro’s board of directors on April 7, 2026, is projected to incur costs ranging from $11.5 million (around ₹106 crore) to $15 million (approximately ₹138 crore). These expenses will mainly go towards severance packages and healthcare benefits for the employees affected.
GoPro CEO and founder Nicholas Woodman previously mentioned “macroeconomic pressures,” such as supply chain issues, escalating memory costs, and tariffs, as significant factors affecting the company’s performance, according to India Today.
Third round of layoffs
The American camera producer had previously anticipated returning to profitability by the conclusion of the 2025 financial year. However, the company reported a loss of $9.1 million in the fourth quarter due to decreasing revenue and heightened competition from rivals like DJI and Insta360.
This represents the third wave of job reductions for GoPro in recent years. In 2024, the company already cut its workforce by about 4% in the first quarter, followed by an additional 25% reduction in the third quarter.
With this action, GoPro aligns itself with a growing number of global tech firms scaling back operations. Other companies, including Oracle, Amazon, Meta, Atlassian, Block, and Microsoft, have also announced substantial layoffs.
GoPro is broadening its product lineup
In the meantime, GoPro is seeking to stimulate growth by diversifying its product offerings. The company is investing in AI-driven solutions and is working on a new image processor, GP3. It also intends to showcase new cameras powered by this processor at the NAB tradeshow later this year.
