Conflict in West Asia: MEA Advises Indians in Iran to Remain in Place and Minimize Travel Amid Rising Tensions
India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has advised its nationals in Iran to remain in their locations and limit movement as the security situation worsens amid escalating regional conflict.

An advisory from the MEA recommends that Indians shelter in place and avoid travel within the country or to border crossings unless they are in close coordination with the Indian Embassy in Tehran and have received clear instructions.

The advisory also suggests that citizens keep away from all electric and military sites, as well as avoid the upper floors of multi-storey buildings for at least the next 48 hours. Indians accommodated by the Embassy have been instructed to stay indoors and maintain regular communication with the embassy teams on-site.
The Embassy has activated emergency helplines (Mobile numbers: +98 912 810 9115, +98 912 810 9102, +98 912 810 9109, +98 993 217 9359. Email: cons.tehran@mea.gov.in) and is prepared to assist citizens, reflecting heightened concerns over safety as tensions escalate.

This update arrives on day 39 of the ongoing war, with Iran maintaining a defiant position even as geopolitical pressures intensify.

The situation has become increasingly unstable ahead of a looming deadline from US President Donald Trump regarding the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil supply route. Reports suggest that Kharg Island, a central hub for Iran’s oil infrastructure, has faced US attacks, with numerous military targets reportedly hit. These developments have sparked concerns over potential disruptions to crude oil flows, contributing to uncertainty in global energy markets and heightening risk sentiment in financial markets.

As the conflict enters a critical phase, India’s advisory emphasizes the importance of caution for its citizens while authorities continue to monitor the rapidly changing landscape.
