While Virat's getting all the attention, it was a team effort that led RCB to their championship victory: Jonty Rhodes
Former South African cricketer Jonty Rhodes stated that it wasn’t solely Virat Kohli’s exceptional talent that led the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to their first Indian Premier League (IPL) victory in 2025, but also the team’s unified effort.

In an interview with CNBC-TV18, Rhodes admitted that he hasn’t followed the IPL closely as he avoids watching television at home. Nonetheless, he commended Krunal Pandya for making crucial dismissals and connected RCB’s success to the overall positive development of Indian cricket, highlighting the emergence of new stars consistently.

“Well, I have to admit, we don’t have a television at home. We’re quite an outdoor family. Whether in Goa or Cape Town — no TV. So if I keep up with something, it’s typically through my phone. But yes, what an incredible season. After 18 years, RCB finally winning, and it’s also Virat Kohli’s number. It just felt meant to be. It wasn’t just about Kohli though — Krunal Pandya, who I have collaborated with at LSG, played a vital part. He might not take 3-4 wickets, but he effectively restricted the Punjab batters,” Rhodes remarked, as Krunal was named Player of the Match in the final for his outstanding performance of two wickets for just 17 runs in four overs.
Rhodes also emphasized the need to recognize the contributions of other players, noting that several domestic talents like Rajat Patidar, Jitesh Sharma, Suyash Sharma, and Mayank Agarwal played key roles at various times during the season, leading to their championship success.

“It was a total team effort. While everyone is focused on Kohli, it was a collective achievement. That’s why Indian cricket is thriving. Young players, previously unknown, are making their mark. That’s what makes the IPL truly special,” he expressed.

Rhodes has also invested in and become the brand ambassador for UpUrFit, actively engaging in the company’s product development and overarching mission.
