Once tagged, Claude can follow discussions, break down tasks, and respond to questions. The agent can also bring up pertinent updates from across the organization. It operates under its own identity and is capable of building context by recalling information shared in the channels it engages with.
“Claude Tag is an evolution of Claude Code, enhanced to be more proactive and designed for teamwork,” Claude mentioned in a post on X. With this launch, Claude Tag aims to facilitate better collaboration among teams by embedding AI directly into workplace discussions.

“Claude operates under its own identity, retains context by remembering relevant information from the channels it joins, and can follow up independently. Claude Tag is currently in beta for Team and Enterprise plans. Claude Tag is available in Slack today,” Claude stated on its website.
The existing Claude experience in Slack will transition to Claude Tag starting August 3.
Features of Claude Tag
Claude Tag integrates AI assistance directly into Slack, allowing teams to collaborate with Claude without leaving the messaging platform. This feature is accessible through three main interfaces:
- Users can tag “@Claude” in any Slack channel and delegate a task. Claude then operates within the thread, enabling everyone in the channel to see its responses and progress. Team members can steer the conversation, provide instructions, or continue from where Claude left off.
- Users can initiate a private conversation with Claude through direct messages for one-on-one interactions.
- Additionally, an AI assistant panel can be accessed from Slack’s interface, providing users the ability to reach Claude from anywhere in the app.
A significant aspect of Claude Tag is its collaborative nature. The same Claude instance is shared across a channel, facilitating teamwork with AI support. Claude can also engage proactively by posting updates upon task completion or alerting users when discussions need attention.
“In direct messages and the assistant panel, Claude has access to the capabilities you’ve enabled in your Claude account, such as web search and your connected tools. Channel tagging functions differently: Claude operates under your organization’s identity, utilizing the tools and permissions set up by an admin for that channel, and the work is billed to your organization rather than to you,” the Claude website clarified.
How to set up?
- After installing the Claude app, only a Primary Owner or Owner can configure Claude Tag for the organization.
- They will provision Claude’s identity, connect company tools and repositories, and adjust access settings.
- They will choose which Slack channels Claude Tag can function in, and individual team members do not need separate setup once it is enabled.
In Organization settings under “Claude in Slack,” Member Access can be configured in three ways: open to everyone in the Slack workspace, open to any member of the Claude organization, or limited to approved roles. The role-based option is only available on the Claude Enterprise plan, as stated on the website.
