On Monday, Tim David of Royal Challengers Bengaluru received a penalty of 30 percent of his match fee for making an “obscene” gesture during the IPL encounter with Mumbai Indians. The RCB team secured a win by two wickets. The Australian player also incurred two demerit points for violating Level 1 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct for Players and Team officials.
“Tim was found to have breached article 2.6 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to ‘using a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting’,” explained an IPL media advisory.
“Tim acknowledged the violation and accepted the penalty imposed by Match Referee, Amit Sharma,” the advisory added.
