Thick fog interrupts Delhi airport activities; 177 flights canceled and over 500 delayed on Friday.
Dense fog caused significant disruptions at the Delhi airport, leading to the cancellation of at least 177 flights and delays for over 500 on Friday.

An official reported that the 177 cancelled flights include both international and domestic services, covering both departures and arrivals.

Nearly 500 flights encountered delays at the airport on Friday, according to data gathered from flight tracking site Flightradar24.com.
On Friday afternoon, the civil aviation ministry posted on X that they are closely working with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and making decisions based on real-time weather updates.

Some airlines are proactively cancelling flights and notifying passengers in advance to prevent unnecessary travel to the airport. Airlines are offering full refunds and complimentary rescheduling options. Airport directors have been instructed to provide all essential support to passengers, according to the ministry.

“Operations at Delhi Airport are running normally without disruption,” stated the Delhi airport operator DIAL in a post on X at 7:10 PM.

On the same day, Air India Express announced the cancellation of flights from Delhi to various destinations, including Pune, Ranchi, Bagdogra, Indore, Patna, Goa, Varanasi, and Jodhpur, among others.

The airline attributed these cancellations to foggy conditions in a post on X.

IndiGo mentioned in a post on X around noon on Friday that Delhi NCR, Amritsar, Jabalpur, and Jalandhar remain engulfed in chilly winter air and persistent fog this morning.

“Fluctuating visibility has resulted in modifications to flight schedules, and operations may be slower than usual as conditions progress. Our ground teams are focusing on safety and meeting visibility requirements,” they added.

In a morning post on X, DIAL indicated that flight operations are continuing under CAT III conditions due to the dense fog. “Both arrivals and departures are ongoing, though some flights may experience delays or disruptions.”

Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) oversees the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), the largest airport in the country, typically managing around 1,300 flights daily.
