Israel Iran War Updates: US President Donald Trump is deliberating whether his country should ally with Israel in its conflict against Iran within two weeks. His indecision has intensified, suggesting he might support a ceasefire but also warned that military action could be initiated before the two-week period expires.
Despite extensive discussions intended to ease tensions between Israel and Iran, no diplomatic resolution has been achieved, as the conflict has now entered its second week with renewed strikes from both sides. European ministers and Iran’s chief diplomat spent four hours in talks on Friday in Geneva, as President Trump remains deliberative about US military engagement amid concerns of possible strikes on nuclear facilities.
European officials have expressed optimism for upcoming negotiations, and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi indicated his willingness for further discussions while stressing that Tehran is not interested in talks with the U.S. while Israel continues its strikes.
“Iran is prepared to contemplate diplomacy if hostilities cease and the aggressor is held accountable for its actions,” he told journalists.
No specific date has been established for the next set of discussions.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israel’s military actions in Iran would persist “for as long as necessary” to eradicate what he terms the existential threat posed by Iran’s nuclear ambitions and its stockpile of ballistic missiles. Israel’s chief military officer supported this assertion, affirming that the Israeli armed forces are ready “for a prolonged campaign.”
However, Netanyahu’s aspirations may remain unattainable without American assistance. Iran’s subterranean Fordo uranium enrichment site is deemed accessible only to America’s “bunker-buster” bombs. Trump mentioned he would delay his decision on whether to participate in Israel’s air offensive against Iran for as long as two weeks.
The conflict between Israel and Iran began on June 13, with Israeli airstrikes hitting nuclear and military installations, as well as prominent generals and nuclear scientists. At least 657 individuals, including 263 civilians, have lost their lives in Iran, with over 2,000 reported injured, according to a Washington-based Iranian human rights organization.
