Tamil Nadu Elections 2026: Commitments from AIADMK and DMK to Women, Youth, and Farmers in Their Manifestos
As the elections for the Tamil Nadu assembly approach on April 23, two Tamil parties have unveiled their manifestos. The DMK, led by Chief Minister MK Stalin, released its manifesto on March 29, while the AIADMK, headed by Edappadi K. Palaniswami, shared its 297-point plan a few days earlier.

AIADMK Manifesto Highlights

Ration card holders will receive lentils alongside the existing free rice program and three LPG cylinders.
Women heads of households will be provided with a free refrigerator to enhance food preservation and daily convenience.

Social security pensions for the elderly and vulnerable will increase to 2,000 per month.

To ease financial pressures, education loans will be waived.

Through the Kulavilakku Scheme, 2,000 per month will be granted to women heads of families.

Free town bus travel will be available for both men and women.

Rural employment initiatives will expand from 125 to 150 working days.

Five lakh women will qualify for 25,000 subsidies on purchasing two-wheelers.

The party plans an annual expenditure of 38,314 crore across various schemes.

An Anti-Drug Task Force will be established to combat ganja and drugs, enforcing strict measures under the Goondas Act.

DMK’s Vision for Tamil Nadu

The Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai for women will increase to 2,000 monthly, with new beneficiaries added yearly.

Free bus travel for women will continue under the Vidiyal Payanam scheme.

The Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme will extend to Class 8 students.

Women will receive an ‘Illa Tharasi’ coupon valued at 8,000 for essential household items.

Medical coverage will expand up to 10 lakh for families earning up to 5 lakh annually.

Pensions for senior citizens, widows, and unmarried women over 50 will rise to 2,000 per month.

Students in the Pudhumai Penn and Tamil Pudhalvan schemes will receive 1,500 monthly, with 35 lakh free laptops to be distributed.

Agricultural initiatives will offer free modern electric pump sets and increase procurement prices to 3,500 per quintal for paddy and 4,500 per tonne for sugarcane.

Housing and infrastructure projects include the construction of 10 lakh concrete houses, 10,000 crore allocated for rural roads, development of four global cities, and the establishment of 50 Semmozhi Poongas.

Pensions for differently-abled individuals will rise to 2,500 per month, with maintenance allowances of 4,000 for those severely affected.

BJP and Congress Yet to Reveal Poll Manifesto

The BJP, running as part of the NDA alliance with AIADMK, is anticipated to emphasize social justice, women’s empowerment, and farmer welfare in its manifesto.

Meanwhile, Congress is formulating a detailed and simplified manifesto aimed at engaging Tamil Nadu voters.
