Sports Ministry approves the launch of the Indian Golf Premier League's first edition.
The Sports Ministry has approved the Indian Golf Union (IGU) to host the inaugural Indian Golf Premier League (IGPL) in January next year.

The League will be conducted in collaboration with Bharat Golf Private Limited.

This approval followed a meeting between IGU Director Major General (Retd) Bibhuti Bhushan, members of the IGPL Board, and Champika Sayal, Secretary General of the Women’s Golf Association of India, with Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Minister of Tourism and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Wednesday.
“I am happy to announce that the Sports Ministry has granted us the approval to host the first-ever Indian Golf Premier League, which aims to promote the sport across Bharat,” Bhushan stated in a press release.

“The IGPL will kick off in January 2026. Through this league, we aim to discover and develop world-class golf talent that will represent Bharat on an international level,” he added.

The IGPL will operate as a city-based franchise league featuring both amateur and professional players competing in a team format.

“The vision of IGPL includes offering international standard training facilities and coaching to over 1 million school and college students in the next three years.” Mandaviya recently emphasized the importance of cultivating a league culture in Indian sports and assured the ministry’s support for this initiative.
