Snap to introduce sleek, immersive AR glasses called 'Specs' in 2026.
Snap Inc. is set to launch its most ambitious hardware project to date — Specs, a sleek, immersive wearable computer incorporated into a pair of transparent smart glasses. Unveiled on Tuesday at the Augmented World Expo 2025, the new Specs are expected to be available for purchase in 2026.

The glasses come equipped with see-through lenses that seamlessly overlay digital content onto the physical world, providing a blend of utility, entertainment, and AI-enhanced support.

Snap’s co-founder and CEO Evan Spiegel referred to the product as “the most advanced personal computer in the world,” representing a shift towards more human-centric computing. “We believe the moment has arrived for a computing revolution that effortlessly merges our digital experiences with reality,” Spiegel stated.
The innovative Specs are designed to comprehend the physical environment through advanced machine learning, allowing users to engage in multiplayer games, receive real-time updates, and tackle complex tasks like browsing or streaming, all within their line of sight.

Snap also highlighted that the company now experiences over eight billion AR Lens interactions daily on Snapchat and boasts a developer community of more than 400,000 creators.

The announcement also emphasized the possibilities for developers with the new Specs. Early experiences include Super Travel by Gowaaa, which assists travelers in translating signs and converting currencies; Drum Kit by Paradiddle, an AR tutorial that provides cues over real instruments; and Cookmate by Headraft, offering recipe ideas based on the contents of your fridge. Additionally, Wisp World is a fun AR game that transforms your surroundings into a playful adventure.

To enhance these experiences, Snap is implementing significant upgrades to its AR development platform. This includes a new Depth Module API for anchoring digital objects in the real world, real-time speech transcription in over 40 languages, and a Snap3D API enabling developers to create 3D content on demand. Enhanced collaborations with OpenAI and Google’s Gemini are also facilitating multimodal, AI-driven AR experiences.

Developers focused on location-based AR are receiving new resources as well — such as a Fleet Management app for remotely managing Specs, Guided Navigation for crafting AR tours through landmarks or museums, and a new Guided Mode that allows users to dive directly into specific AR experiences.

Snap also teased future developments: support for Niantic’s Visual Positioning System to create a shared, AI-driven map of the world, along with WebXR compatibility, enabling developers to test immersive experiences directly from the browser.
