In 2024, the state recorded 15,40,421 domestic tourists, which rose to 16,35,650 last year.
The number of foreign visitors fell to 71,710 in 2025 from 84,710 in the prior year.
CS Rao, Additional Chief Secretary of the Tourism Department, mentioned that steps are being taken to draw more foreign travelers and enhance sustainable and responsible tourism in the region.
He attributed the decrease in foreign arrivals to significant road damage in October, especially along NH-10, which negatively impacted visitors’ travel plans.
Rao added that if road conditions throughout the state, including NH-10, improve and remain stable, Sikkim could anticipate nearly 2 million tourist arrivals this year.
He also noted that the rise in domestic tourist numbers reflects a growing preference for the Himalayan state among visitors.
