GT faced a challenging match against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Mullanpur on Tuesday.
“Yes, Shubman communicates his understanding of the game very clearly, demonstrating his deep knowledge of cricket, particularly at the highest levels and in Test cricket,” Hayden remarked.
“He exudes a lot of confidence. If you will, he embodies the modern generation’s swagger, which I truly appreciate—this sense that he’s in control and is shaping his own destiny.
“Moreover, regardless of the team he plays for, he selflessly emphasizes, as I’ve observed him in numerous press conferences, that his focus is very team-oriented,” the former batsman stated on Monday.
Hayden, who is currently serving as the batting coach for Gujarat Titans, also expressed optimism about the team’s batting lineup as the new season approaches.
“Last season, there were no notable weaknesses. It was primarily a strong foundation from the top three, supported by some exceptional middle-order players, and capped off with the finishes they delivered last year.
“So, the metrics are quite solid heading into this season. The minor areas for improvement will naturally develop as the tournament progresses,” he added.
GT will face the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their next IPL 2026 match on April 4.
