He is set to join the squad prior to their county match against Surrey at Scarborough in July, and he will remain with the team until the season concludes.
Gaikwad is currently part of the India A squad touring England, participating in two unofficial four-day matches against England Lions. Their final game will be an intra-squad four-day match in Beckenham from June 13-16.
“Captain of the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League and Maharashtra in the Ranji Trophy, the Pune-native is a highly skilled batter with six international ODI caps and 23 appearances in IT20s,” Yorkshire stated on their website.
“The right-hander is capable of batting in any position in the top four and has demonstrated his versatility by stepping up to open the batting for India when needed.”
“Experiencing cricket in this country has always been a dream of mine, and there’s no greater club in England than Yorkshire,” Gaikwad remarked.
“I understand the importance of starting strong during this crucial segment of the season. We have key matches in the County Championship, and the One-Day Cup presents an excellent chance to secure some trophies.” Yorkshire head coach Anthony McGrath expressed hope that Gaikwad’s presence would add “extra solidity” to the team.
“He is an accomplished cricketer with a natural all-round game that aligns with our cricketing philosophy. Ruturaj will enhance our batting lineup while also having the capability to score quickly when needed. He’s an exciting talent and is highly respected in the cricketing community,” he noted.
Yorkshire currently sits second to last in the 10-team Division One standings, as they face a challenging season with one win, four losses, and two draws so far.
