Akasa Airlines has organized the return journey of Haj pilgrims to the Srinagar Embarkation Point via Ahmedabad, permitting a check-in baggage allowance of up to 35 kg until Ahmedabad, as stated by the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs.
“After that, each pilgrim will be allowed 5 kg of check-in baggage on the Ahmedabad-Srinagar flight, while the remaining 30 kg will be transported separately by road to Srinagar. The cabin baggage allowance remains unchanged,” the ministry communicated in a post on X.
“Due to a NOTAM issued for Srinagar Airport and ongoing runway maintenance, which has led to temporary runway length restrictions, there are imposed payload limitations on aircraft operations to ensure flight safety,” it added.
The necessary arrangements at Kashmir’s only civilian airport have arisen purely from operational constraints and aviation safety requirements, as noted by the ministry.
“The Ministry of Minority Affairs, the Haj Committee of India, and the J&K State Haj Committee are continuously coordinating with all stakeholders to ensure the safe, smooth, and dignified return of pilgrims,” it stated. “Safety is paramount, and all decisions have been made in the best interests of the pilgrims.”
