Revamp of Air India Maharaja Club: Reduced Points and Simplified Upgrades Starting in April
Air India has updated its Maharaja Club loyalty programme, modifying redemption rates, cancellation policies, and tier qualification criteria starting April 1.

With this new structure, the points needed for award flights and upgrades have been lowered across a significant portion of the airline’s network.

Economy class redemptions have decreased by approximately 30% on most domestic and international routes, while the reductions in business and premium economy classes are more subtle.
Domestic award tickets will now commence at 1,500 points.

For international journeys, redemption levels have been harmonized by region. One-way award tickets will start at 35,000 points for Europe, 40,000 points for the United States and Australia, and 50,000 points for Canada.

Nevertheless, certain routes have experienced no change or even an increase in required points.

The airline has also implemented a tier-based system for the cancellation and rescheduling of award tickets. Members can make adjustments without incurring fees within designated timelines corresponding to their tier; afterward, a flat fee will apply. Points used for upgrades will be refunded if tickets are cancelled, subject to specific conditions.

Modifications have also been made to tier qualification.

The number of flights needed to reach membership tiers has been decreased, although the spending requirement remains the same. The updated thresholds will be applied retroactively to flights taken in the last 12 months.

Furthermore, select travel benefits, such as priority services and lounge access, will be available to one co-passenger traveling on the same booking as eligible members.

Points accrued from flights will now be credited within two hours or sooner, including those from partner airlines.
