Punjab Congress to Maintain Leadership; Party Will Compete in Elections Under Kharge and Rahul: Baghel

Kharge apologies for 'illiterate' comment, affirms his profound respect for Gujaratis.
Congress general secretary in charge of Punjab, Bhupesh Baghel, dismissed rumors on Tuesday regarding a potential change in leadership in the state, emphasizing that next year’s Assembly elections would be fought collectively by the leaders.

Baghel made this statement following a meeting with the party’s senior leadership at the residence of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, located at 10, Rajaji Marg. The meeting was attended by Kharge, former party president Rahul Gandhi, and Congress general secretary K C Venugopal.

“A meeting about Punjab occurred a few days ago, and another took place today, especially with the Assembly elections approaching. We had serious discussions about the path ahead,” Baghel informed reporters.
When asked about the rumors suggesting a leadership change within the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, Baghel replied, “I mentioned a few days ago that there had been no discussions on that front. The Congress party values collaboration. We will continue to move forward together.” He further stated, “This is merely speculation from the media. No discussions on leadership have taken place… there will be no changes.”

Regarding Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Baghel noted that he is the PCC chief, and the forthcoming election in the state will be contested under the guidance of Kharge and Gandhi.

He asserted that the state leadership would approach the polls in a unified manner.

Criticizing the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Punjab, Baghel stated that significant issues affecting the state’s development include law and order, corruption, and drug-related problems.

”The party that presented itself as ’kattar imandaar’ (completely honest) has now turned into the party of ’kattar beimaan’ (utterly dishonest),” he remarked, criticizing the Bhagwant Mann-led government in Punjab.

Baghel’s meeting follows previous discussions focused on Punjab held at Kharge’s residence, also attended by Gandhi and Venugopal.

After that meeting, Baghel stated that Punjab holds immense significance for both the Congress party and the nation, and the party aims to formulate an action plan and hit the streets “very soon.”

Former Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi, former deputy chief minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Punjab Congress chief Warring, and Vijay Inder Singla were present at the meeting.

Punjab is set to hold elections early next year.
