The first-ever Pune Grand Tour 2026, a UCI 2.2 Continental multi-stage cycling competition for men, will feature 171 cyclists representing 29 teams from 35 countries across five continents.
Hosted by the Pune District Administration with unwavering support from the Government of Maharashtra, this five-day race spans 437 kilometers, comprising one Prologue and four stages, traversing Pune’s varied landscapes, from historical sites to the challenging Deccan plateau hills.
This landmark event—India’s inaugural UCI 2.2, scheduled for January 19-23, 2026—has garnered participation from top professional teams across five continents. Premier squads from 29 nations, including cycling powerhouses like France, Great Britain, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Australia, China, and Thailand, will converge on Pune for this significant event. Asia will showcase the largest contingent with 78 riders, followed by 69 from Europe, 12 from Oceania, six from the US, and six from Africa.
Unlike typical UCI 2.2 races, which usually feature smaller pelotons of up to 125 cyclists, the Bajaj Pune Grand Tour will exceed expectations with 171 participants, establishing a new standard for the UCI 2.2 category. The competition will include 29 competitive teams, featuring an Indian team of six riders selected at the recent National Championship in Odisha.
Mr. Jitendra Dudi (IAS), Collector of Pune District and Officer In-Charge for the Pune Grand Tour remarked, “This is a pivotal moment for Pune and India, and we are prepared to host a race that sets a new global standard for UCI Asia Tours. This is more than just a race; it signals India’s emergence as a new powerhouse in the professional cycling arena.”
Dudi further stated, “This is a point of pride for Pune, allowing it to reclaim its identity as the ‘Cycle Capital’. The inaugural edition will mark a significant day for India as it establishes itself as an international cycling destination. For us, the Bajaj Pune Grand Tour goes beyond merely hosting a race; we are focused on creating a legacy for Pune and India. We draw inspiration from the 120-year history that the ‘Tour de France’ has built. The record turnout for the Pune Grand Tour further strengthens our belief that India can soon have its own ‘Pro Tour,’ with Pune at the forefront of this aspiration.”
