Premier League: Mikel Arteta Commends the Comeback of Goal-Scoring Gabriels
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta hailed the significant returns of Brazilian duo Gabriel Magalhaes and Gabriel Jesus, who both scored in a commanding 4-1 victory over title challengers Aston Villa on Tuesday.

With this home win, Arsenal has increased their lead over Manchester City to five points and ended Villa’s impressive 11-match winning streak, which had included a last-minute home victory against Arteta’s team a few weeks prior.

Centre-back Gabriel made his comeback from injury during Arsenal’s tight win against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, offering a considerable boost to Arteta with his defensive skills and contributions at the other end.
The Brazilian’s physicality overwhelmed Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, who struggled with Bukayo Saka’s inswinging corner, allowing the ball to deflect off Gabriel for his 17th league goal from a corner.

“He returns from an injury in six weeks, which arguably should have taken longer, and plays against the toughest team to handle … He significantly impacts the game, both in defense and in the opponent’s box,” Arteta shared with reporters.

Jesus also made a noteworthy return this month after nearly a year sidelined with a cruciate knee ligament injury, scoring a brilliant fourth goal from the edge of the box in his first touch after coming on as a substitute.

“He comes back after such a lengthy absence without scoring and nets a wonderful goal,” Arteta remarked.

Injuries continue to be a concern, as midfield powerhouse Declan Rice was absent from Tuesday’s match due to a knee issue.

Rice has played in every Premier League game this season, and Arsenal appeared vulnerable without him in the first half, where Villa missed several excellent opportunities.

“The swelling (in his knee) needs to subside for him to be functional,” Arteta explained.

“He’s making progress,” he continued, “but we’ll see what unfolds in the next few days.”
