PM Modi calls off Gangtok trip because of bad weather, participates in statehood event online.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s planned visit to Gangtok on Thursday (May 26) was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. He participated in the event virtually.

He was set to join the golden jubilee celebrations of Sikkim’s statehood on that day.

“Today marks a significant occasion — the golden jubilee of Sikkim’s democratic journey. I wished to be part of this celebration. Earlier today, I departed from Delhi and reached Bagdogra, but due to the weather, I could not proceed further. Consequently, I was unable to meet you in person,” Modi noted.
Modi unveiled a commemorative coin, souvenir, and stamp to commemorate 50 years of Sikkim as a state.

He inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several initiatives, including a 500-bed district hospital worth over ₹750 crore in Namchi, a passenger ropeway at Sangachoeling in Pelling in Gyalshing district, and a statue of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji at Atal Amrit Udyan in Gangtok.

Hoardings and banners welcoming the prime minister were displayed throughout Gangtok and nearby areas.

During the statehood event, Modi mentioned, “Sikkim is abundant in biodiversity and has set benchmarks in nature conservation. Connectivity is a primary focus of our government; the Sevoke-Rangpo project will integrate Sikkim with the rail network.”
