Passport Seva Portal Unavailable: Nationwide Service Disruption Results in Unannounced Appointment Cancellations
A technical issue disrupted passport services nationwide, causing the Passport Seva portal to experience prolonged downtime. Applicants reported canceled appointments, lengthy delays, and unavailable services at several Passport Seva Kendras, leaving many frustrated and stranded.

The disruption was reported to be due to a server malfunction, which rendered operations at PSKs in various cities—such as Delhi, Mumbai, and Bhopal—non-functional.

Users trying to access the portal or the official mobile app encountered repeated failures, while many struggled to reschedule canceled appointments due to a lack of available slots.

“Due to a server issue, all services at the PSK are currently unavailable,” a user reported on the social media platform X. Applicants expressed frustration over the lack of timely updates, with some receiving cancellation messages, while others only learned of the issue after arriving at the center in person.

“The passport seva kendra put up a notice stating that they were unable to process requests due to a technical issue. There were no SMS, email, or phone alerts sent to applicants… many arrived only to find the gate locked, and no one was there to assist,” another user from Ghaziabad shared on X.

Furthermore, users attempting to reschedule appointments faced limited options. Many noted that the earliest available dates were weeks or even months away, severely impacting those with urgent travel needs.

In spite of growing concerns and mounting complaints on social media, the Ministry of External Affairs and the official Passport Seva account had not issued a statement regarding the outage until 3:30 PM IST on June 20. The absence of official communication from authorities also drew criticism from affected users.
