A note on X stated, “@GovtofPakistan has been withheld in IN in response to a legal demand.” This implies that X was requested to restrict the account in compliance with a legitimate legal demand, such as a court ruling.
According to X’s guidelines, if the platform receives a legitimate and appropriately scoped request from an authorized entity (like the government), it may need to restrict access to specific content in certain countries on occasion.
Furthermore, such restrictions will be confined to the specific jurisdiction that issued the valid legal request or where the content has been deemed to breach local laws.
This development follows the terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, on April 22, which resulted in 26 fatalities. The attack was reportedly executed by a banned group known as the Resistance Front.
The incident has sparked global outrage, with many showing solidarity with India.
In response to the attack, the Indian government previously announced various measures, including mandating that Pakistani nationals in India on a special SAARC visa leave within 48 hours.
