Pa. metro area one of the top 10 best for summer travel

May is — shockingly — somehow halfway through, meaning summer is nigh.

Meaning, also, that summer travel season is nigh. And if you’re looking for somewhere to go, may we suggest this location in Pennsylvania?

According to a new report from WalletHub, the Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington, Pennsylvania-New Jersey-Delaware metro area is the eighth overall best summer travel destination of 2025.

Researchers at the site found said summer travel destinations by first seeding a list of the country’s 100 most populous, then grading them across six main categories: “Travel Costs & Hassles,” “Local Costs,” “Attractions,” “Weather, “Activities,” and “Safety.” Relevant metrics such as “Cost of Cheapest Flights” and “Number of Attractions” were also included.

Without further ado, the number one best summer destination for this year was found to be the Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford, Florida area.

“Orlando, FL is the best metro area for summer travel, known for attractions like its huge them parks,” the study elaborates. “The shortest flights to Orlando from other major cities have zero connections and cost as little as $322.

“Surprisingly, the lowest nightly rate for a three-star hotel in Orlando is only $42, which is very reasonable. The metro area has plenty of affordable, high-quality restaurants to choose from, too.”

“When picking a summer travel destination, it’s easy to focus just on the types of activities you want to do or certain cities you’ve always wanted to see,” adds WalletHub analyst, Chip Lupo.

“However, choosing a destination that’s not only entertaining but also affordable is important when travel, dining and activity costs have surged so much in recent years. It can also allow you to have a longer, more relaxing trip.”

Last on the list, by the way, was the Bakersfield, California metro area.
