“Recently, the Indian Armed Forces initiated ‘Operation Sindoor’, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, from where plans and directions for terrorist attacks against India have been formulated,” the Army stated in a release at 1:44 am.
It noted that the actions taken by the Indian Armed Forces were “focused, measured and non-escalatory” and emphasized that no Pakistani military establishments were affected.
The strike followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi granting “complete operational freedom” to the military, pledging to “deliver a decisive blow to terrorism”.
Here’s who said what
Amit Shah, Home Minister: I take pride in our armed forces. Operation Sindoor serves as Bharat’s response to the heinous killing of our innocent siblings in Pahalgam. The Modi administration is dedicated to providing a strong counter to any attack on India and its citizens. Bharat remains resolute in eradicating terrorism at its roots.
Rajnath Singh, Defence Minister: Bharat Mata Ki Jai
Dr S Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister: The international community must exhibit zero tolerance towards terrorism.
Nirmala Sitharaman, Finance Minister: Operation Sindoor represents a robust reaction by the Indian Army, targeting the terror hubs in Pakistan. India will never condone terrorism.
Rahul Gandhi, LoP in Lok Sabha: Proud of our Armed Forces. Jai Hind!
Jairam Ramesh, Congress spokesperson: India’s unwavering commitment to dismantling all sources of terrorism in Pakistan and PoK must be resolute and firmly rooted in the paramount national interest. This is a period for unity and solidarity. Since the evening of April 22, the INC has unequivocally stated that the government will have our utmost support in responding to the Pahalgam terror attack. The INC stands firmly with our armed forces.
Yogi Adityanath, UP Chief Minister: Jai Hind! Jai Hind ki Sena!
Omar Abdullah, J&K Chief Minister: There are reports of casualties. Regrettably, in Poonch, there are also reports of injuries. I won’t delve into specifics. However, as I mentioned, despite the continued shelling in Poonch, the DC Poonch was able to join the video conference. I was able to evaluate the situation with him and assess the hospital’s condition, particularly concerning blood supplies and other essentials. We are deploying more ambulances to the forward areas. At this juncture, there’s little more we can do due to the ongoing shelling. However, we are closely monitoring the situation, and our response will adapt as it develops.
Mamata Banerjee, WB Chief Minister: Jai Hind! Jai India!
N Chandrababu Naidu, AP Chief Minister: I salute the courageous warriors of the Indian Armed Forces for promptly avenging the Pahalgam terror attack. With their unmatched valor and precision, they have once again proven that our nation will defend itself with unyielding resolve.
Manoj Sinha, J&K L-G: I’ve also instructed the DCs to relocate villagers from vulnerable areas to safer locations and ensure proper boarding, lodging, food, medical care, and transportation. We will guarantee the safety of every citizen. Jai Hind!
Akhilesh Yadav, Samajwadi Party MP: Parakramo Vijayate (the brave shall triumph)
Asaduddin Owaisi, AIMIM MP: I commend the surgical strikes executed by our defense forces on terror camps in Pakistan. The Pakistani deep state must learn a tough lesson to prevent another Pahalgam from occurring. Pakistan’s terror infrastructure must be entirely dismantled. Jai Hind!
