The two industry leaders will join forces with some of the most prominent figures in business and technology, including Marc Benioff, CEO of Salesforce, who will co-chair the Commission, along with Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, Andy Jassy, CEO of Amazon, and Lakshmi N. Mittal, Executive Chairman of ArcelorMittal.
Announced on July 2, the AI for Good Global Commission assembles over 40 leaders from governments, international organizations, academia, and the private sector to shape the future of artificial intelligence, ensuring its advantages are distributed widely.
Rwandan President Paul Kagame and Marc Benioff will co-chair the Commission, while ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin will take on the role of Vice-Chair. The ITU indicates that the organization will concentrate on enhancing AI access, building trust in the technology, and creating practical solutions that support sustainable development.
This initiative is particularly pertinent as AI adoption accelerates worldwide, yet access to digital infrastructure is inconsistent. The ITU estimates that approximately 2.2 billion individuals remain offline, highlighting the necessity for policies that prevent AI from exacerbating existing digital inequalities.
The Commission builds on the ITU-UNESCO Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development and aims to unite leaders who create AI technologies, deploy them extensively, and influence policy—facilitating a collaborative platform to tackle the opportunities and challenges associated with artificial intelligence.
The Commission is expected to meet for the first time at the AI for Good Global Summit 2026 in Geneva, scheduled from July 7 to July 10.
