Dhoni represented India in all formats, captaining the national team from 2007 to 2016 and leading them to victory in all major international tournaments. His leadership journey started with a historic win in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2007, followed by securing the ODI World Cup at home in 2011.

Two years later, he led a revamped squad to victory in the Champions Trophy held in England. Dhoni also clinched the ICC Test Mace in 2009, having captained the team to a series win in New Zealand that year.
“Renowned for his composure under pressure and unparalleled tactical acumen, while also being a pioneer in shorter formats, MS Dhoni’s legacy as one of cricket’s greatest finishers, leaders, and wicketkeepers has been celebrated with his induction into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame,” stated the ICC in their official press release.
It further noted, “With 17,266 international runs, 829 dismissals, and 538 matches across formats for India, Dhoni’s statistics showcase not only excellence but remarkable consistency, fitness, and longevity.”
Dhoni made his ODI debut for India in Bangladesh in late 2004, getting run out for a duck without facing a delivery in that match. Despite this rocky start, he captivated the cricketing world with his innovative batting style, showcasing a refreshing approach to limited-overs cricket through his incredible striking ability.
Although his batting style evolved when he assumed captaincy, Dhoni built a reputation as the go-to man in high-pressure situations, often rising to the occasion during crucial moments of significant matches to lead his team to victory. He was awarded the Man of the Match in the finals of the 2011 ODI World Cup, where Dhoni elevated his batting position and scored 91* to steer a challenging run chase after the early loss of wickets at the Wankhede Stadium against Sri Lanka.
